WHO WE ARE

Proyecto Orquesta Sinfónica de la Florida (POSFL) is a non-profit organization founded in August 2021 by Maestro Jhonny Mendoza, with the mission of using music education as a tool for social transformation. We are dedicated to empowering children and young adults through high-quality musical training while fostering multiculturalism, discipline, and community engagement.

Based in Miami, Florida, POSFL provides a platform for young musicians to grow artistically and personally. Through participation in outreach and performance-based projects, our students not only refine their musical skills but also contribute to preserving the performing arts and enriching the cultural fabric of our city. POSFL is committed to shaping the next generation of well-rounded, socially engaged musicians who reflect the diversity and spirit of our community.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

MAESTRO JHONNY MENDOZA

Maestro Jhonny Mendoza is the Founder and Executive Director of Proyecto Orquesta Sinfonica de la Florida (POSF). He was born in Venezuela in a family of musicians and his music education started at the age of seven with his father Jose Pablo Mendoza. In 1975, Maestro Jhonny Mendoza participated as a founding member of "El Sistema" National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela under the direction of Maestro José Antonio Abreu. This training and education has guided his profession as an activist musician around the world. Inspired by "El Sistema" that he once formed, Maestro Jhonny Mendoza founded Proyecto Orquesta Sinfonica de la Florida (POSF) as a commitment to provide children and young adults with music education as an avenue for social transformation.
